Bridge Opening At 6:00 p.m. Labor Day

Bridge to Reopen Monday Evening
At a press conference this afternoon, Caltrans
Director Will Kempton announced that the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge would be
ready to open at 6:00 p.m. today, 11 hours ahead of schedule.
Praising his crews and subcontractors, C.C. Myers said
it was a testimony to teamwork and thinking outside the box.

Just before 3:00 a.m. Monday, work crews moved the
6500-ton bridge into place which allows the final stages of upper and lower deck
work to begin.
Caltrans closed the entire bridge at 8pm Friday
night for a seismic safety repair that involves a 350-foot section of I-80 just
outside the east entrance to the Yerba Buena tunnel.
The project has moved ahead of projections throughout the
weekend.
*Roll in of the new replacement bridge began just
before midnight Sunday, and was completed before 3:00 a.m. allowing for the
finishing work to begin on the upper and lower decks of the bridge.

C.C. Myers, Inc. To Begin Roll In of New Bridge

C.C. Myers, Inc. will begin moving the new 350-foot replacement bridge
on the east side of the Yerba Buena Island into place.
Demolition and debris removal of the old section
of bridge, which began at 9:30 p.m. Friday night, was completed Sunday
evening and the roll in of the new bridge began shortly
before midnight.
C.C. Myers, Inc. began construction of the 350-ft replacement
bridge January 12, 2007. Over 2700 square yards of concrete and steel were used in the structure which
weighs nearly 6500 tons. The new bridge is being hoisted by eight hydraulic jacks and will be moved into position
just east of the tunnel opening on Yerba Buena Island

The entire San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is scheduled to be closed until: 5am Tuesday, September 4, 2007
