C.C. Myers, Inc Proposes New I-5 Construction Schedule
Date Posted : 03/17/2008

Sacramento's I-5 project contractor, C.C. Myers, Inc. has proposed a dramatically faster construction schedule for the repairs that will take place over the summer.

"We think this is a smarter, safer and in some ways, easier way to complete the I-5 repairs and rebuilding. The key for us, was getting Caltrans and city leaders on board, and I must say, we've all worked together to make this happen," said contractor C.C. Myers.

"Our company likes to think outside the box and I especially enjoy the re-design process. What we have now, is a plan that disrupts traffic for a much shorter time than we originally thought and still allows the public access to downtown Sacramento and Old Sacramento."

Caltrans awarded the I-5 project to C.C. Myers, Inc. on February 8, 2008. The company's winning bid included a 114-day construction schedule at a cost of $27M. Caltrans had estimated the project taking 305 days to complete at a cost of more than $44M. C.C. Myers, Inc.'s proposed repair plan now reduces the impact to traffic to approximately six weeks, beginning after the Memorial Day holiday. Final approval of this construction plan by Caltrans is pending, but support has already been given by the cities of Sacramento and West Sacramento.

The Rancho Cordova-based highway and bridge building company has completed 17 emergency projects for the State of California, including the repair of the MacArthur Maze in May of 2007. Last week C.C. Myers, Inc. was honored with the national AGC/Aon Build America 2008 Grand Award for that project. Over the recent Labor Day weekend, C.C. Myers, Inc. replaced a section of the Bay Bridge near the Yerba Buena tunnel by rolling in a new 350-foot bridge section. Early this year, contractor C.C. Myers was named one of ENR's Top 25 Newsmakers of the Year.
