In early 2007, C.C. Myers, Inc., as bridge subcontractor to prime contractor Fisher Sand & Gravel Company, began the task of completing four bridges and the new construction of five bridges for Nevada's extension of I-580. This 8.5 mile I-580 construction phase, from Mt. Rose Highway to the north and intersecting Hwy 395 to the south at the Bowers Mansion cutoff, parallels US 395, connects Reno and Carson City, and will relieve increased traffic now impacting US 395. The entire phase of this freeway extension is expected to be completed in mid-2011.
The Galena Creek Bridge, an arch bridge rising 300 feet in the air, will be the longest and highest bridge in Nevada to date. The five new bridges, standard box girder types, include the Bowers Mansion Interchange and a connection to and completion of the Mt. Rose/I-580 Interchange.

C.C. Myers, Inc. and Fisher Sand and Gravel Company proposed a change to the original plans; pending approval, an engineered earth fill over Galena Creek will be constructed and the arches will be built on conventional falsework. The earth fill would be approximately 120 feet tall, 200 feet wide at the top, 400 feet wide at the bottom, with a culvert at the bottom to perpetuate the Galena Creek flow. Construction of the fill is expected to take three months, weather permitting, and construction of the two arch bridges for the Galena Creek Bridge should take 650 days. The fill would be in place until the start of 2010, followed by a few months for falsework and fill removal.
