The Benicia project constructed new roadway alignments and bridge structures to eventually switch all southbound traffic to the existing Benicia-Martinez Bridge, and to receive all northbound traffic from the new main span. The Interstate 680 / Interstate 780 Interchange project included both ends of the spectrum in terms of climate, terrain, geology, and construction.
