A City of Sacramento 2008 project, C.C. Myers, Inc. constructed a new bridge to replace the existing bridge, the last vehicular wooden bridge in Sacramento; street conditions at the bridge approach were improved. The bridge crosses over the levee between American Avenue and Colfax Street.
The project included 24 recessed areas under the bridge for bat housing, an observation deck, pedestrian and bicycle crossing, and ornamental lighting. Bridge work was completed in late October 2008.
