AGC Award

On April 14, 2007, C.C. Myers, Inc. and Caltrans District 4 were presented a 2007 CCERF Partnering Award for the mid-2006 Route 128 Russian River Bridge Project in Geyserville, California. CCERF, California Construction Education & Research Foundation, is an affiliate of AGC (Associated General Contractors of America).

Project Manager Shane Dees and Dan Hobbs, Job Superintendent, accepting the CCERF Partnering award, are flanked by, left, Dan Himick, CCM President and Caltrans James Cook and Nader Eshghipour, Senior Bridge Engineer and Area Construction Manager, respectively.

The 1,000-foot bridge suffered structural damage in a New Year's Eve storm that caused the river to surge to 25 times its normal volume. Caltrans decided to replace the 1932 steel and concrete span rather than repair it. With a history of successful partnering, a level of trust existed between the Caltrans and C.C. Myers, Inc. and made it possible for smooth and quick construction.
  • C.C. Myers, Inc. initiated a Cost Reduction Incentive Proposal to change the design of the superstructure; Caltrans was receptive to the concept of change, proactive in development of the change, and expeditiously completed the review of the revised design.
  • A goal was set to satisfy commitments made to the community of Geyserville to open the new bridge in concert with the start of the school year scheduled for August 22, 2006 and that goal was met.
  • The job recorded 52,092 man hours - with no safety incidents.
  • The Cost Reduction Incentive Proposal also allowed for some changes to utility lines that were originally designed to be mounted to the outside of the original structure exposed to the elements and the public. The design change allowed for these utilities to be located underneath the structure within the pre-cast double tee girders which provided better protection to the facilities. This was a benefit to Caltrans, the public and the owners of the utilities.
